Risks on the Road – Can I be me?

Traveling for business is fraught with stressful moments for anyone - packing, traffic to the airport, confusion/delays at the airport, connections, finding your way in a new location.  However, there are certain groups of people for whom this travel activity is more disruptive because of who they are and/or choose to be, including female, LGBTQ, and autistic employees to name a few.  Most of these people have found a level of comfort and acceptance in their homes, neighborhoods, in their office environments.  However, when they are told they need to travel for work, suddenly those rules of comfort might change, and certain risk factors suddenly become very real depending on the destination city or country.

In this session, we will define several types of "atypical" travelers and list some of the risk factors for each.  We will also talk about why these risks can be disruptive and possibly dangerous not only to the traveler, but potentially to the traveler's company as well.  And, we will discuss ways to engage in conversations and trainings with these types of travelers to prepare for the atypical risks they may face while on the road.
