The key to a successful partnership is maintaining an open line of communication and managing the relationship on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. Join us as we talk about successful relationships and what takes place in a successful Supplier Business Review.  Find out how expectations are managed before the meeting even starts, for example, buyers defining what needs to be in the review beforehand so that your review will be actionable and aligns with both of the company’s objectives. Find out what our speakers have done to tailor the reviews to fit their goals. Take away tips and suggestions to bring to your next review as a buyer or a supplier by hearing what’s most important from both sides of the table.

Moderator:

Jorge Cruz, Senior Vice President, BCD Travel

Jorge heads up all sales and retention activity in the Americas, which includes both North and Latin America. He also manages employees and client programs from California to New York, providing client-focused senior management support both during implementations and ongoing in our service relationships. With more than 35 years of industry experience, Jorge applies hard-won lessons to the great benefit of clients—whether mid-sized or large-market and across a wide range of industries. He’s spent 18 years in the roles of vice president or above, overseeing operations and account management, business development, budgeting and profitability. He’s served as a senior vice president since 2006. A cyclist enthusiast, he crossed off a big item on his bucket list after attending the 100th Tour de France. He resides in the San Diego area.

 

Panelists:

Barbara Arena, Principal Category Manager, Global Travel Sourcing - Oracle

Barbara has over 20 years of experience in the travel industry in agency and corporate sourcing
department management. Her experience includes Travel Agency Operations and Account
Management with Thomas Cook Travel, Rosenbluth Interntional, and American Express. After moving to the Corporate side of the business, Barbara managed the Hotel, Car, Some Regional Airlines, and Temporary Housing programs for Oracle where she grew the programs to globally managed entities saving $14 million in savings on the Global Hotel Program. Additionally, she effectively increased communication to travelers, suppliers and senior management enforcing key company strategies and increasing adoption to 93% on online booking channel as well as 86% usage of the preferred hotels. Barbara is an active member with SVBTA (Silicon Valley Business Travel Association) and is currently holding the Chairman position of the organization.

 

Drew Mitchell, Travel Manager – Americas, Cognizant Technology Solutions

Drew Mitchell is the Regional Travel Manager for the Americas at Cognizant Technology Solutions responsible for travel operations, programs, and sourcing projects. Drew started his career in corporate travel management with WorldTravel BTI (now BCD Travel) as a dedicated resource on key accounts such as Merrill Lynch and GlaxoSmithKline. Drew has also held positions with American Express, Hewlett-Packard, and Pfizer.

Drew enjoys being active in the industry, conducting various ad-hoc benchmarks and surveys to develop business intelligence to keep his finger on the pulse of the industry. Drew is on the Board of Directors for Silicon Valley Business Travel Association (SVBTA).

Drew holds a B.S. in Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and currently resides in Santa Cruz, California. 

 

Michael Phares, Global Account Director – Strategic Accounts Worldwide Sales,
InterContinental Hotels Group

Michael Phares is a Global Account Director, Strategic Accounts with InterContinental Hotels
Group. As part of IHG’s commitment to deliver an internationally consistent sales experience to
our key customers, Michael as the responsibility of globally managing five of IHG’s strategically
significant corporate accounts; including IBM, Oracle Corporation, Cisco, Hewlett Packard
Enterprise, and Google. In addition to orchestrating the global sales & strategic account
management activities focused with a total account managed approach, Michael is responsible
for the account guidance of a regionally based team of account directors and continuously
engages the full resources of IHG to optimize account performance; including sales leadership,
operations, regional and global functional groups, and senior management.

With over 25 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, Michael joined InterContinental Hotels Group in 2010. Prior to joining IHG, he held progressive sales & marketing leadership positions at the property, regional and corporate levels with Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Marriott International, and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

Currently residing in the Chicago area, Michael and wife, Sharon, have 2 daughters in college
and a son in high school. Michael is a graduate of Illinois State University with two Bachelor of
Science degrees; in Marketing and Economics.
